How long they have been there

A state without a duration says nothing. In transit for three days is normal; for forty the unit is lost. Broken for two days is a service call; for ninety it is a write-off decision.

Pale is within the threshold, solid is past it. The thresholds are a policy choice, not a fact — they are the first thing to argue about with the people who own the process.

Units past their threshold

24 of 640. Short enough to act on this week, which is the only length that gets acted on at all.

By region

Spares are only useful if they are reachable. A region with no free units is one failure away from a dark screen, whatever the global number says.

RegionUnitsIn useFree spares Needing attentionValue
North America NA 21516227 3 $8 809 400
Europe, Middle East & Africa EMEA 16913016 8 $8 602 000
Asia Pacific APAC 15410616 8 $7 172 900
Latin America LATAM 1025615 5 $4 726 300
The alerts spread roughly with fleet size, but the service rates do not. Latin America has 55% of its fleet in service against 77% in Europe, Middle East & Africa, 71% group-wide — a 22-point gap on 102 units. Whether the cause is staffing, spares positioning or how the region posts its movements is not something this page can settle. It can only say where to ask first.

Source data validation

Every extract is tested against the rules below before a single figure is drawn. A record that fails a blocking rule is quarantined and excluded from everything on this page; the count is published rather than absorbed. A dashboard that cannot say what it rejected is asking to be trusted on its word.

RuleWhat it enforces SeverityCheckedFailedResult
EQ-UNIQEquipment numbers are unique — One serialised object, one record — duplicates double-count value Blocking 6400 Pass
EQ-REQMandatory fields present — EQUNR, MATNR, STATUS and an age are required on every record Blocking 6400 Pass
ST-DOMStatus within the status profile — No status outside the six codes defined in the user status profile Blocking 6400 Pass
LOC-REFFunctional locations resolve — Every TPLNR, source and destination exists in the IFLOT master Blocking 6400 Pass
POS-EXCLPlaced or moving, never both — A unit in transit belongs to no location; any other unit belongs to exactly one Blocking 6400 Pass
TR-ROUTETransit route is a real move — Source and destination must differ — a unit cannot be in transit to itself Blocking 6400 Pass
REF-DOCReference document attached — Transit and allocation need an STO, maintenance an order, breakdown a notification Warning 6400 Pass
LOC-KINDLocation type fits the status — In use at a venue, free or allocated in a depot, in maintenance at a workshop Warning 6400 Pass
AGE-DOMAge is plausible — Between 0 and 3650 days in the current status Warning 6400 Pass
VAL-DOMAcquisition value present — A unit with no value cannot be weighted against any other Warning 6400 Pass
ETA-DOMPromised lead time is plausible — A transit promise between 1 and 60 days when one is given Warning 6400 Pass
passed640 records 0none excluded

All 640 records passed every blocking rule, so nothing was excluded. That is the expected result on a clean extract — the rules exist for the day it is not.

SourceSAP fixture

Every unit is serialised, so a state is always attributable to one physical object rather than to a quantity. That is what makes the ageing meaningful — you cannot age a number.

What this is not

  • The data is synthetic. Structures and field names follow SAP Plant Maintenance and Logistics Execution, but no production system was read and no company data was used, in any form. The operator, its venues, depots and workshops are invented, and so is every number on this page.
  • Durations are fixed, dates are derived. The fixture stores how long each unit has been in its state, and the pipeline derives the dates from the day you open the page. So the dates always read as current — but the distribution is a designed snapshot, not a fleet ageing in real time.
  • No live tracking. Transit position comes from goods-movement postings, not a carrier feed or a GPS tag. A unit is "where SAP last saw it", which is not the same as where it is.
  • Thresholds are a policy choice. Fourteen days in transit, ten days broken — assumptions, not findings. In a real deployment they would be set per region and per equipment class.
  • No cost of downtime. A dark screen has a revenue cost per day that is not modelled here. Adding it would change the ranking of what to fix first.
